Live from Master Closet Studios, you’re listening to the only podcast on the internet that can never eat soup again: It’s the Noobs and the Whovian!
My name is Austin and I’m the Whovian, and these are my sons Corbin and Tripp and we’re the noobs!
This is the podcast that introduces a whole new generation to Doctor Who by watching an episode each week and discussing it from the perspective of a dad who’s seen it before, and two sons who haven’t.
Welcome to Episode 119 covering the Series 8 episode 5: Time Heist
This is the one where the Doctor and Clara and a mutant human and an augmented human break into an impregnable bank protected by a psychic slugbull and managed by Lara Croft!

Checklist
- Name of the episode spoken in dialogue?
- ALMOST! Time travel heist
- Creature of the week
- The return of the memory worm!
- The Teller
- Jiggery Pokery
- TARDIS
- That sign definitely glows
- TARDIS
- Needless sacrificial death
- PSI didn’t really die for nothing, his sacrificial death actually worked! It saved Clara.
- Oh and he didn’t die
- PSI didn’t really die for nothing, his sacrificial death actually worked! It saved Clara.
Other stuff we noticed
- The woman in the shop
- I like the idea that they stripped everyone of motive, background, everything but their raw skill and said “break into this bank!”
- What happens if your BRAIN runs out of batteries!?!?
Who’s Who?
- Who is Clara?
- Don’t rob any banks, what? Don’t rob any banks without me.
- Who is the Doctor?
- Why is your face all colored in? Are you taller?
- Being in charge is his super power
- That, and it’s basically the eyebrows
- He hates not knowing
- Is that why you call yourself the Doctor? The professional detachment?
- She wanted to be normal. Everyone has a weakness.
- Shut up, everybody just…. Just shut up.
- Do you like the new look? I was hoping for minimalism, but I think I ended up with magician.
Classic Who Connection
- When Psi was visualizing notorious criminals in order to lure the Teller from Clara, we saw three Classic Who baddies. A Sensorite from the serial The Sensorites in 1964. A Terileptil from the serial The Visitation and an Ice Warrior.

Theories
- Thoughts on Missy and Heaven?
- Corbin & Tripp – The Half-faced man didn’t actually die but was put into a new body of some kind. That’s not Heaven, though it could be the Promised Land.
- Tripp – Missy is NOT a robot, perhaps a creator.
- Corbin – Missy is the bad guy. Lt. Redshirt was a robot! Missy is the lady in the shop
The Game Plan
- Next week we cover our 13th Timey Wimey story – Bill & Ted: Face the Music.
